Founded in 1993 by Dave and Kathy Wodehouse, Witch Creek Winery began as a small country winery in the hills of Ramona, California, adopting our namesake from the area of Witch Creek, where we got some of our first grapes. We then enjoyed a small stay in Escondido for a couple years. In 1996, we moved production to our current home by the beach in sunny, beautiful Carlsbad Village. As an urban winery, we enjoy the ability to be selective about choosing where our grapes come from. We source our fruit from highly respected vineyards and growers in Paso Robles, El Dorado Hills, Clarksburg, Fallbrook and Valle de Guadalupe, all within a day’s drive of our winery.
Original winemaker and founder Dave Wodehouse cultivated a passion for combining tradition and creativity in our wines. Our current winemaker, Ryan “Scotty” Scott, enthusiastically explores this ideal through a commitment to heritage, innovative thinking and a determined zeal for creating outstanding wines. Ryan produces 19 single-varietal wines, as well as several traditional and unique blends. He specializes in producing unfined and unfiltered wines with a focus on Teroldego, and recently received three gold medals for Teroldego and Best of Varietal.
An Urban Winery
Witch Creek is proud to be San Diego’s oldest urban winery and first beach winery. Our wine is made right in the heart of Carlsbad Village, with grapes sourced from all over California and Baja California. We believe that a wine can only be as good as the grapes that it is made from, so we source from several exceptional vineyards both established and up-and-coming, so that we can be proud of the wines that we produce. Witch Creek wines are available exclusively through our tasting rooms (in Carlsbad and Julian), the Cellar Club and our online wine shop. Come visit us and have a glass of wine!
